I wrote to you on the 19th February under the above reference regarding recoveries of amounts disbursed by the Australian authorities on account of Hong Kong evacuees. You will see from the enclosed letter from Australia House to the Crown Agents that the Australian authorities are preyring for settlement of the claim, and that the High Commissioner at Canberra has been meeting their claims from 3eptember onwards.

If you accept our

suggestion that the cost might be borne on tour vote of credit, we would be grateful for an early reply. If, however, you think that part of it should still come from Hong Kong funds, a little further "administrative delay" will do no

harm
